Elecampane (Inula helenium) Tincture, Dried Root Liquid Extract

A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Inula helenium, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Elecampane is a big, coarse, handsome perennial to two metres, with basal leaves the size of a forearm, downy grey beneath, and flower heads like slightly dishevelled yellow sunflowers with very narrow rays. It came from central Asia, was carried west by the Romans, and has naturalised through Europe and North America. Its root is thick, aromatic and bitter, and it is where the sugar inulin was first isolated and got its name.

Glycerite: Inula helenium dried root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

People allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or other Asteraceae may react to elecampane; it is a known cause of contact dermatitis. Not for use in pregnancy. Do not exceed the suggested amount.

Reported interactions: Moderate interaction with Sedative medications (CNS depressants) : Elecampane can cause tiredness and somnolence as well as sedative medications such as clonazepam (Klonopin), lorazepam (Ativan), phenobarbital (Donnatal), zolpidem (Ambien), and others. Concurrent using of the eleuthero and listed medications can be the reason of a strong feeling of sleepiness. Before using, consult a doctor.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
